The history of Southcott Racing - a word from the Chairman
I formed Southcott Racing in 1965 I and we are now proudly celebrating our 50th year. I initially set up a company called Microwave Systems Ltd, which concentrated on the aeronautical industries. After many years of working with the British and American governments, as a main contractor, the company was sold and I refocused on what has proved to be a lifelong passion – thoroughbred racing.
This change in direction proved rather fortunate, as we were able to quickly procure a lovely thoroughbred from the brilliant racing family of the famous Jubilee Song. The yearling purchased was named ‘Swellegant’ and she became one of our most prominent foundation mares with her and her progeny racing and winning all over the world.
Southcott racing grew quickly in following years, and eventually encompassed Ladygrove and Thurston House Stud - large operations that produced a number of fine thoroughbreds, many of which have been sold to influential figures inside and outside of the industry. Some of these high-quality winners include: Desert Sunset, Helms Deep, Jato, Ayunli, Swellegant and Wise Son.
We are now specialising in the racing of a thoroughbred racehorse and bringing together a small group of people to share in the racing experience.
